DOCTOR WHO star DAVID TENNANT is hoping to start a family in the New Year (10) - because he doesn't want to miss out on parenthood.
The actor is currently dating 24-year-old actress Georgia Moffett, who is the daughter of former Doctor Who star Peter Davison, and admits he is ready to settle down with her and become a dad.
He says, "It feels an important thing to do and I'd hate to miss out on it. I'm only 38 but my parents had had three kids by this age and I have had none yet."
Tennant also paid an emotional tribute to his mum Helen, who died of cancer in 2007, insisting he hopes he can be a good a parent as she was.
He adds, "My mum's gone now but I feel very fortunate to have had the upbringing that I had and to have had the family around me that I've had."

Lembas (V)	Serves: Serves 12. Prep Time: 15 minutes Difficulty: Intermediate
Description: This is a sweeter variation of an old Elvish tradition.
Ingredients 1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour, plus extra 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. baking soda a pinch of nutmeg a dash of salt 1/4 cup chilled shortening 1/3 cup buttermilk
Instructions Preheat oven to 425' and refrigerate shortening. Mix together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg together in a large bowl. Rub the cold shortening into the dry ingredients with your fingers, until completely worked through. Form a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Work into a dough that can be rolled out. Turn dough out onto a floured workspace and shape into a 10" by 9" rectangle. Cut into 12 pieces, and lay on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, or until tops are golden brown. Take out and immediately lightly sprinkle with sugar while still hot. Serve when cool.

Tennant: "I'm just passing through"

David Tennant has admitted that he is sad to be leaving Doctor Who.

However, the 38-year-old told The Observer that he almost didn't take the job because he didn't want to be typecast.

"It did take me a few weeks to think it through," he said. "But the only other option is you don't do the job. I remember waking up one morning thinking, 'I can't turn this down. Even if it's the wrong thing to do'."

Tennant described the success of the programme as "bewildering" and explained that he managed to cope with leaving the show because the final scene he filmed was for an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

"It couldn't have been less memorable or less significant," he said. "It was robbed of any epic quality, but that was probably best. There are a lot of scenes in the final story that are very sad, and were very sad to play. If one of them had coincided with the actual final day, I'd have been a puddle."

Tennant also suggested that his fame is fleeting, claiming that he was only asked to co-present Comic Relief because of his role on Doctor Who.

"I don't imagine I'll be in the frame for things like that anymore," he said. "I'm sure in two years' time they'll want Matt Smith to do Comic Relief. I suspect I'm just passing through, really."
